Job Vacancies – Aviation Surveyors

This role is for experienced surveyors who hold a recognised surveying qualification and have experience with the survey of aeronautical data (ICAO Annex 14, ICAO Annex 15, ICAO WGS-84 Manual, CAP232, EASA Part ADR-OPS). Good numeracy skills are essential, as is competency with MS Office software and experience of using CAD software and survey processing software.

New team members will work under supervision during a probationary period while becoming familiar with SLC’s procedures and ethos, before progressing to the role of survey team leader and taking responsibility for project planning and the delivery of high-quality data and survey reports that meet the required standards. We are increasingly using remote sensing technology, such as stereo satellite imagery, to supplement our terrestrial survey work. Experience of working with such data to obtain and manipulate digital elevation models would be an advantage. Fieldwork is carried out throughout the year and in many countries, so it is essential that applicants enjoy being outside (in any weather) and overseas travel. English is the international language of aviation, and so fluency in English is essential for communicating with clients and writing reports. However, the ability to communicate in other languages will be useful when carrying out fieldwork overseas.

Operational airfields can be challenging environments to work in. The need to work between the movements of aircraft and during pre-arranged periods of access introduces time pressures and operational restrictions. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they can think on their feet when faced by the unexpected and adapt plans as necessary to meet the work objectives. We work in developing countries where environmental and safety standards can be very different to the UK. Applicants would be required to show cultural awareness and act with common sense to keep themselves and team members safe and well during overseas projects, to ensure successful completion of the project objectives. The new team members will be based in the company offices in Aylesbury but must be willing and able to travel throughout the UK and overseas for several weeks at a time. Applicants should hold a full UK driving licence or be willing to obtain one upon receiving a job offer. Applicants must be willing to undertake criminal records disclosure checks to satisfy current aviation security regulations.
